Analysis: Mason took a physical after meeting with Kings officials in Sacramento on Wednesday, a person with knowledge of the meeting told The Associated Press. The preson spoke on condition of anonymity because a deal had not been signed. Mason played only 39 games last season for Oklahoma City, missing the second half of the season with a hyperextended right knee. He started 18 games, averaging 7.5 points and 4.0 rebounds a game for the season.

Analysis: Mason's agent confirmed Wednesday that talks between the nine-year NBA veteran and the Thunder had broken down and the two sides wouldn't be agreeing on a new contract. Mason had expressed his desire to return to Oklahoma City after a knee injury forced him to miss the second half of last season. But the two sides weren't able to agree on a role for Mason, who still wants to make significant contributions instead of simply being a mentor for younger players.
